Healthy Cooking, Eating and Literacy for the Third Grade Classroom

Activities for the classroom meeting New York State educational standards

Created by Jo Wilson, Consultant, RCSD teacher (retired)

Created during the 2008-2009 school year, this curriculum provides concrete activities that engage students in learning about healthy nutrition and eating, tasting food, preparing food and following recipes to create food.

With our initial implementation, student participants received cookbooks to keep after the unit was offered in class. Teachers also received funds to pay for food. However, this curriculum unit could be used in whole or in part to support a variety of classrooms with varied levels of resources.

REF wishes to thank the funders of this project: The Greater Rochester Health Foundation, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, Rep. Joseph Robach and Key Bank.
